How to use Minifolio
Tap a topic to open it. New here? Start with Getting started.
Getting started
- The app starts with three example units. Clear them in Settings → Delete all units.
- Add your units: one at a time with Units → + Add unit, or many at once from a CSV file or a pasted army list (see Importing).
- As you build and paint, press ▲ on a unit to move it up a stage.
- Check the Dashboard to see how far you've got.
- Save a backup now and then (see Your data and backups).
Adding and updating units
- + Add unit on the Units tab. The number box is how many models are in the unit (up to 999; tracking each model separately works for up to 100).
- Add the same unit twice (same name, game and faction) and they're numbered for you: Intercessors 1, Intercessors 2.
- Press ▲ to move a unit up a stage. Made a mistake? Press Undo on the message that pops up.
- Tap a unit's name to open its details: nickname, model count, repaint flag, paint notes, photos, back a stage, and delete.
- Use the game and faction menus and the stage chips to filter the list. Tap several stage chips to combine them.
Photos and progress timeline
- Open a unit's details and press + Add photo. You can add as many as you like, and pick several at once. Each one remembers the unit's stage and today's date.
- The photos sit in a strip, oldest on the left, newest on the right, each with a coloured dot and the stage it was at. Add one at each stage and you get a timeline of the unit going from grey plastic to painted.
- Tap a photo to see it full size. Use ‹ › (or swipe, or the arrow keys) to move between photos, and ✕ to close.
- In the full-size view you can fix a photo's stage or date, make it the cover (the picture on the unit's card, marked ★), or delete it. Deleted by mistake? Press Undo.
- No cover chosen? The newest photo is used.
- Before / after shows two photos together: the first and the latest to start with, but you can pick any two. Choose Side by side or Slider (drag to wipe from one to the other).
- Tracking each model separately? Pick Which model? before adding a photo, so it's labelled with that model.
Stages and "Done"
- Stages are yours to change in Settings → Stages: rename, reorder (↑ ↓), add or remove. Changes apply when you press Save.
- Done starts at decides what counts as finished. By default, "Battle ready", "Painted with issues" and "Parade ready" are Done.
- Units move with their stage when you reorder. If you remove a stage, its units drop to the stage before it.
Faction colours
- Give each faction its own colour in Settings → Faction colours (or tap Faction colours on the dashboard). Tap the colour circle to pick one.
- Suggest offers a colour. If the faction's units have recipes linked, it uses those (armour recipes first, each recipe's first paint, usually the base coat). Otherwise it uses the colour the faction is usually painted, for well-known factions.
- Use suggested colours colours every faction that hasn't got one yet, in one tap. Press Undo on the message if you change your mind.
- The colour shows as a bar on the dashboard's faction cards, a soft tint and a dot on unit cards, and a stripe on the faction filter.
- The coloured stripe down the left of a unit card is still its stage.
- Rename changes a faction's name on every unit in it, and keeps its colour. Clear removes the colour.
The dashboard
- It counts models, not units: a 10-model squad counts as 10.
- Tap any number, chart row or faction to jump to those units.
- Repaint projects shows units you've flagged for a repaint.
- Progress over time shows how many models you've added and how many are painted (Done), day by day. Touch or hover over the graph to see the numbers for any day, or open Show as a table.
- The graph uses the dates the app has recorded since v4. Units added before that count from the start of the graph, and deleted units drop out of its history.
Paint recipes
- A recipe is how you paint one part, like armour, eyes or trim. Press Recipes → + New recipe.
- Add steps in the order you paint them. Each step has a technique (base coat, wash, dry brush…), the number of coats, and one or more paints.
- Not sure what to call a technique? Leave it on Auto and the app guesses from the paints: a shade becomes Wash, a Contrast paint becomes Contrast, 'Ardcoat becomes Varnish, and so on. You can always pick one yourself.
- Use the Whole model part for steps done all over the model, like priming, base coats and an all-over dry brush.
- Each step can have a short note (e.g. "heavier on the top") and an Optional tick for steps you sometimes skip. Optional steps show faded.
- Basing materials like rocks, sand, snow and static grass can go in a step too. They're listed in Your Palette as basing materials and kept out of the colour sort.
- For each paint, type its name and brand and tap the colour circle to pick roughly what it looks like. Paints you've used before are suggested as you type.
- Mixing paints? Add more than one paint to a step and type a mix ratio like 2:1, 1:1:2 or 50/50 (in the same order as the paints). The %s are worked out for you, or you can set each one's mix % yourself. Contrast Medium and Lahmian Medium are suggested as you type.
- Reorder steps with ↑ ↓. Nothing is saved until you press Save recipe.
- Link a recipe to units from the recipe (Used on) or from a unit's details. Linked recipes show as buttons on the unit's card: tap one to open it.
- Your Palette (top of the Recipes tab) lists every paint in your recipes, once each. It fills itself in: add a paint to a recipe and it appears.
- In Your Palette, sort by colour, name or brand, and tap a brand to show only its paints. Tap a paint to change its colour, name or brand: the change applies in every recipe that uses it.
- At the bottom of an open paint: Remove deletes a paint no recipe uses (a paint that's still in a recipe can't be removed). Merge into… joins it to another paint, handy for a typo twin like "Nuln Oill": its recipes move to the paint you pick, and that paint keeps its own name and brand. Both have Undo.
- 📷 Scan a paint pot (in Your Palette) reads the paint's name from its label with the camera and suggests matches. The reading happens on your phone; the photo is never sent anywhere. The first scan loads the label reader (about 11 MB) from Minifolio's own site, and after that scanning works with no internet. Leaving the app, or closing the scan panel, switches the camera off.
- Typed a paint into a recipe that isn't in Your Palette yet? Above Save recipe, Do you own these? asks about the new paints: All (Owned), None (Not owned, so they go on the shopping list) or Let me pick (tap a paint to untick it).
- Schemes (top of the Recipes tab) group the recipes you use for one faction, e.g. "My Ultramarines" = armour, trim, lenses and base. Press + New scheme, name it, type the faction and tick its recipes.
- Apply to … units links a scheme's recipes to every unit in its faction that doesn't have them all yet. Recipes a unit already has stay linked.
- With New units … get these recipes automatically ticked, any unit you add to that faction later (by hand or by import) gets the scheme straight away.
- In a unit's details, the Link a recipe… menu also lists its faction's schemes. Deleting a scheme leaves its recipes and links alone.
- Need a part or technique that isn't listed? Choose + Add a new… in the menu. Remove ones you don't use under Parts and techniques.
Pasting recipes from your notes
- Got recipes in Google Keep, a phone note or a Reddit post? On the Recipes tab, tap Paste recipes from your notes, paste them in and press Read notes. You get a preview first: nothing is saved until you press Save.
- Put each part on its own line ending in a colon, like Eyes:, then one step per line (or several split by commas). Mixes like 2:1 Baal Red:CM, 50/50 or Seraphim Sepia 1:2 with Contrast Medium are read as one mixed step. "Ushabti Bone and Wraithbone" is read as both paints.
- Divider lines (-----, ***, ===) and lines with only emoji are skipped, like blank lines. Words the app can't read as a paint (say, in another alphabet) are kept as a note.
- Up to 20,000 characters are read at once (a few pages of notes). If yours is longer, the preview says so: paste the rest separately.
- Not sure about a paint (like "CM")? Check … paints asks what you meant. The app remembers your answer for next time.
- ✕ next to a step, a part's name or a note leaves it out of the paste. Each has Undo. This only changes the preview, not your notes, so Read again brings everything back.
- ✎ on a step lets you change it before saving: its technique, its mix ratio (Clear makes it an even mix), or Change… any of its paints to a different one. Only that step changes, and each change has Undo.
- If the paste has paints that aren't in Your Palette yet, Do you own these? sits above Save: All (Owned), None (Not owned, so they go on the shopping list) or Let me pick.
- Copy as text on a recipe writes it out in the same style, so you can share it or paste it back. Mixes are copied with their ratio (an even mix is written 1:1), so they come back the same.
Importing (CSV and army lists)
- From the Warhammer app: open a list, tap Export, copy it as text, then in Settings → Paste an army list paste it and press Read list. Only unit names and model counts are kept: points, wargear and rules text are thrown away.
- From a spreadsheet: save it as CSV with the columns name, game, faction, stage, nickname, count, repaint, notes, then use Import CSV. CSV template gives you an example file.
- Before anything changes, you choose Add to my collection or Replace my collection, and can untick any units you don't want.
- Units you already have start unticked. If one has a different name in the import, it's highlighted so you can pick which name to keep. The Warhammer app's name is the default.
- Changed your mind? Press Undo straight after.
Your data and backups
- Everything is saved on this device only, in your browser. Nobody else can see it, and it isn't sent anywhere.
- Clearing your browser's data or uninstalling the app deletes it, so Save backup regularly. The app reminds you after a week (and if you have photos, it reminds you about a backup with photos). Every backup shows a message when it's saved.
- Save backup is small and quick, but leaves out photos. Save full backup with photos makes one bigger file with everything, photos included.
- Restore backup brings either kind back, including your stages, recipes, schemes and faction colours. A backup without photos keeps any photos already on this device that match.
- Photos are kept in a separate, much bigger store in your browser, so there's room for lots of them. Settings → Your data shows how many photos you have and how much space they use.
- Clean up photo storage removes photo files no unit uses any more (for example after Delete all units) and tells you how much space it freed. Photos in the device's safety copy are left alone.
- Export CSV saves your collection as a spreadsheet (without photos).
- If the device's storage is full, a red banner appears at the top saying changes aren't being saved. It stays until saving works again. Save a backup, then free some space. Big changes (new stages, a restore) are only made if they can be saved, so nothing gets half-saved.
- Delete all units, Replace my collection and Restore backup keep a copy of what you had on this device for 30 days. Find them under Settings → Your data → Recover earlier data. Delete all also has an Undo button. If there isn't room for the copy, Delete all and Replace stop and change nothing.
- If some photos in a backup can't be loaded, the app tells you how many. Keep the backup file safe and try again later.
- A backup with recipes but no units can be restored too: it replaces only your recipes. It has an Undo button, and your old recipes are also kept for 30 days under Recover earlier data as "Before Restore backup (recipes only)".
- Your data and backups carry a data version number. If an older copy of the app (say an installed app that hasn't updated yet) finds data saved by a newer one, it stops saving and asks you to reload, so it can't damage that newer data. A backup saved by a newer version asks you to update before it restores.
- A Saved message only shows when your change really was saved. If the device's storage is full you'll see Not saved with a Save backup button instead. A paste import that can't be saved is put back and stays open, so your answers aren't lost.
- Got the app open in two places at once (say the installed app and a browser tab)? Changes made in one now show up in the other, instead of being saved over.
- New phone? Save a backup on the old one, open the app on the new one, and restore it.
Installing on your phone
- Open the app's web address in Chrome, then use the menu (⋮) and choose Add to Home screen or Install app.
- It works with no internet. Updates arrive next time you open it online; you may need to close and reopen it once.
- On an iPhone, use Safari's Share button → Add to Home Screen. This matters: iPhones can clear a website's saved data (photos included) if it isn't opened for a week, but not for apps added to the home screen.
Updates and feedback
- The version number is next to the title. The Updates tab lists what changed in each version.

Import and backup
In the Warhammer app, open a list, tap Export, then Copy as text. Paste it below. Only unit names and model counts are kept; points and wargear are ignored.
Check your import
What should this import do?
Game and faction for these units (check they match the spelling you use):
Save backup is small and quick but leaves out photos. Save full backup with photos makes one bigger file with everything. Restore backup reads either kind.
Export CSV gives you a spreadsheet of your collection (no photos), which Import CSV can read back. CSV columns: name, game, faction, stage, nickname, count, repaint, notes. Only name is needed. Stage should match one of your stages. Repeat a row for several of the same unit; they'll be numbered for you.
